Montero
is among the premier classical pianists in the world – a protégé of the legendary Martha Argerich and
a tireless advocate of the lost art of classical improvisation. The world took notice of her great talent during the recent
performance at the Presidential Inauguration with Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. She is known for taking suggestions from the
audience, which she uses to compose her trademark on-the-spot improvisations. “One note begins,” she says, “and
the rest follow. To be able to walk out on stage and not know what’s going to happen, to just create it at that moment,
it’s wonderful.”
Master Class for area piano students open to the public in the Recital Hall Friday, October 9 at
6 pm. This program has been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National
Endowment for the Arts.

Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra
Concert-goers will experience the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky performed by this
renowned 160-member Russian orchestra. The Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1978 out of a need for the
symphonic repertoire of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries to be broadcast throughout Russia for the benefit of its citizens.
Since its inception, the MSRSO has shared the beauty of music with hundreds of thousands of listeners in its home country
and throughout the world. Nadezda Tokareva is an award-winning violinist who studied at the Moscow State Conservatory, where
she now teaches. This
program has been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

ages. The ensemble performs over 100 shows annually, has several acclaimed recordings to their credit, and can often be heard
on NPR’s Performance Today. Their latest release Latin Nights showcases the immense talent and range
