Turtle Island Quartet & the Assad Brothers

Known for their ingenious, eclectic programs, these two ensembles create something altogether different with “String Theory,” an evening of wild celebration, astounding virtuosity and deep beauty from the rhythms of Africa and melodies of the Appalachian Mountains, to the poetry of the Balkans, and passion of Brazil - and everything in between as they perform the works of Chick Corea, Egberto Gismonti, Astor Piazzola, Ralph Towner, and more.

Extraordinary improvisers, composers and arrangers, Turtle Island brings audiences along for a truly memorable ride.  The Turtle Island Quartet is the American quartet for music lovers in the 21st century.
Assad Brothers are "the best two-guitar team i existence, maybe even in history...no amount of anticipation could have prepared me for the Brazilian brothers' daringly flexible, eerily unanimous ensemble playing..it was as if they could see inside each other's head." - Washington Post
This program has been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

I Musici de Montreal

The music of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is combined with projection of the award-winning film based on paintings choreographed to the composition. The film won the "Excellence in Cinema" Award at the New York Independent Film & Video Festival and serves as a visual translation of the music. The powerful program continues with Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence and Borodin's Nocturne

"The big-screen projection is an uninterrupted suite of delight, with effects of movement, space and depth, always successful achieved."
- Le Presse, Montreal
